VeriFone to Offer Managed Payment Services to Mexico Merchants

VeriFone Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: PAY) today announced formation of VeriFone Access to provide merchant hosted services for managing electronic payments, beginning in Mexico. VeriFone Access was formed with VeriFones investment and in partnership with Tienda-kit, an innovative Mexican third-party acquirer and merchant services provider, which now operates as VeriFone Access.

VeriFone Access will offer a variety of merchant payment services in Mexico and other emerging economies. The companys first offering will be a hosted managed service platform based on a proprietary transaction handling technology and on VeriFones PAYware software products.

Merchants Urged to Reduce Risk of Data Breaches

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The consensus of speakers at the just-concluded Real Security Summit is that the future of credit card payments depends on systems that remove useable card data stored anywhere at the merchant level. "The technology exists to achieve real security by taking card data out of merchant systems," said J. David Oder, CEO of Shift4 Corporation, which sponsored the Summit. "Hackers and bad guys will always be on the attack, so the prudent approach is to minimize risk by not storing data in merchant systems."

What was described by Jonathan Rusch of the U.S. Department of Justice as a "global security epidemic" is fueled by terrorist groups and organized crime turning to credit card fraud as a ready source of cash. "Terrorists are always learning and exploiting the system.

Man salons offer ESPN, scotch

Men looking for a decent haircut and shave have generally had two options: Head to the local barber or brave a female-focused beauty salon. Now, some new shops for men aim to offer salon pampering in a guy-centric environment - complete with ESPN and scotch. These manly salons also allow men to indulge in treatments once taboo, such as manicures and facials - but all with a distinctly male tenor. Instead of pastel-colored walls, there are wood floors, black leather couches and pool tables. Some also offer private areas for more blush-inducing services, such as hair coloring and body waxing. These kind of treatments have become more popular. Men made up 31 percent of the 111 million spa visits in the U.S. in 2006, according to the International Spa Association. That's up from 24 percent of 109 million visits in 2003.
