| School prevails so far, what of parents?
There was a joyful moment this week when a Riverside County Superior Court judge ruled a Christian school in Wildomar has the right to set a code of conduct for its students' most intimate behavior.The lawsuit was brought in December 2005 by attorneys for two teen girls who were kicked out of California Lutheran High School because school administrators believed them to be lesbians. A leading contention by the students' attorneys is that the school is a private enterprise selling a service ---- education ---- and thus falls under the authority of the California Unruh Civil Rights Act in regard to equal protection from discrimination. .

Does the crunch mean M&A is dead and buried?
Other sectors tipped to throw up deals include energy, commodities, transport, engineering, defence and infrastructure. For the buyout kings, however, the days of FTSE100 takeovers seem to have been crunched. Ironically, the recent market selloff has triggered renewed interest from private equity firms in taking companies private. "While there is a feeling of uncertainty among acquirers, there is also a feeling of opportunity in these volatile times. Larger corporates and private equity firms see parts of the mid-cap public market as hugely oversold by investors. "By taking a longer view than public market investors, some of those potential acquirers may move to buy those businesses at historical market premiums that don't recognise fundamental value," says Philip Noblet, the deputy head of European M&A at Merrill Lynch.
